Bob Carr kicked off his political career in the Senate for this term by attacking Tony Abbott. He went on to call him a “cheap circus hypnotist” on Tuesday morning.

Bob Carr, the ex-NSW Premier was to be sworn in as the member of Senate and then to the Government House to be sworn in as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He sat amongst Senator Sara Hanson Young and Senator Nick Sherry on his temporary seat. After completion of the oath taking ceremony, all other Senators came up to Carr and greeted him, after which he was taken to the front row of the Labor Party. Carr’s wife Helena was also present in the visitor’s gallery of the parliament at the time of oath taking.

Bob Carr is replacing Senator Mark Arbib who resigned all of a sudden two weeks ago. Carr was greeted warmly upon being admitted as a Senator even by those he has severely criticized in the past.

Mr. Carr wasted no time in raising fingers over the activities of existing Senate members. He said, “It is striking that 18 months out from an election there is a simply a six point gap between the two sides. Look into my eyes, you are growing weaker, end Labor’s big bad tax. Look into my eyes, you are growing weaker, debt and deficit. It is a very cheap performance. If you paid $5 to get into Worth’s circus and that’s all you got from the hypnotist, you’d ask for your money back.”
