A mother dies in police pursuit

A mother died and her daughter was severely injured at a traffic intersection when their car was hit by a police vehicle following a stolen vehicle on Thursday.

The accident took place in the northern suburbs of Perth at the corner of the Morley and Alexander Drive around 11 in the morning. According to the initial investigation report, the police vehicle which hit the other car in Dianelle was chasing a stolen car when the collision occurred at the corner of a traffic signal. Both the victims of the accident were taken to the nearby hospital immediately where the mother was declared dead whereas the daughter is facing severe injuries. Two police officers in the other vehicle also suffered injuries; however, minor ones.  

The stolen car which the police vehicle was following before the collision happened is reported to have managed to escape. Other investigation teams on that case are following up on the stolen car.

The accident scene has been marked by the investigation team and they are collecting evidence from the accident site for assistance in further investigation. A number of police officers have been deployed at the other corner of the road to divert traffic and allow the investigators time to complete their regular procedures. The Department of Police Internal Affairs and the Major Crash Unit, both are going to carry out investigations of the crash and submit separate reports.
