With the passage of time, excitement among fans and players is building upon as Olympic Games opening ceremony is about to start in few hours, after seven years of intense preparations.
London is prepared to launch on Friday, the greatest sporting show on earth with excitement reaching fever pitch hours ahead of the opening ceremony. After seven years of intensive planning and energetic work, the Games will officially begin in a once rundown area of east London where 80,000 spectators will watch a spectacular show devised by “Slumdog Millionaire” director Danny Boyle.
Queen Elizabeth II will officially declare the opening in the Olympic Stadium after a ceremony which Boyle has promised will showcase Britain’s history as well as the nation’s quirky sense of humour. Thousands of VIPs including some 120 world leaders are in the British capital for the ceremony, with guests ranging from Hollywood superstar, Angelina Jolie and U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama to the king of Swaziland.
Four-time Olympic gold rowing medallist Matthew Pinsent carried the flame from Hampton Court Palace and lit a cauldron on the barge, which carried the queen during her 1,000-boat diamond jubilee river pageant last month.
A budget of £9.3 billion ($14.5 billion, 12 billion euros) has been lavished on bringing the Games to London for an unprecedented third time, but the first time since 1948.
The Games are guarded by Britain’s biggest ever peacetime security operation backed by a force of more than 40,000 military and civilian personnel.
The weather is expected to be dry for the ceremony after showers during the day in London.
