Images of American drone incident over Black Sea
Footage of the US drone incident in the Black Sea has been released by American military officials. The drone allegedly collided with a Russian warplane after the fighter jet discharged fuel, possibly in an attempt to damage the drone’s sensors. The images do not show the actual collision, as the camera went out, but they do reveal damage to the drone’s propeller.
The incident occurred in international airspace about 120 kilometers southwest of the Crimean peninsula, and both countries are currently searching for the drone. The US claims that Russian pilots have engaged in dangerous actions with US and allied aircraft before, while the Russian defense ministry says the drone violated airspace limits set for the “Special Military Operation“.
The defense ministers of both countries spoke about the incident, the first time since October, with the White House warning against unintentional escalation. The Americans maintain that they flew the drone over international waters and plan to continue doing so.
