The MPS will be making use of a communications system known as Neighbourhood Link, a free messaging service to send key messages out to visitors wanting to come and see the Pope, and to London residents and businesses.
The service is easy to sign up to, users need to highlight the updates that they want to receive about the Papal visit and enter a valid UK post code. Visitors from outside the UK will need to enter the post code of where they are staying while in the UK.
The MPS aim to provide regular updates about where people can see the Pope, where to avoid and other useful information relating to the visit.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Rose Fitzpatrick said: "This system will give us a great opportunity to reach large numbers of people, from residents and businesses to visitors from home and abroad and to ensure that they are well informed throughout the visit."
