The British parliament was evacuated immediately on Thursday following a security alert after a suspicious package was discovered in the main visitor center in Westminster Hall.

However, the suspect device found near the X-ray machines turned out to be nonthreatening after the careful examination by the police which ten called of the security alert.

In the meantime, traffic was briefly stopped around parliament square, which is close to Prime Minister David Cameron’s residence in Downing Street.

Though this time there was no cause for panic, still the package did contain some kind of device in it, the details of which are not available yet.

The U.K. parliament has a history of facing threat and attack, started back in 1605 when Guy Fawkes tried to blow it up.

Also during the 1979 assassination of Airey Neave – a politician by the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA), the Irish Republicans did blow at least some part of it.
