Former News of the World editor Andy CoulsonFormer editor of News of the World Andy Coulson has been sentenced to 18-months jail on Friday in connection to the conspiracy of hacking phones.

Coulson, 46, who also joined to serve Prime Minister David Cameron as director of communications in 2010, was found guilty at the Old Bailey last week, however the jury failed to reach a verdict on two charges related to bribing the corrupt officials.

Afterwards, a retrial was ordered to conduct on the ex-spin doctor along with his former colleague at NoW Clive Goodman regarding the remaining two charges for royal phone directories and illegal payments to police officers.

Trial judge Mr Justice Saunders gave jail sentences to him and two former news editors Neville Thurlbeck and Greg Miskiw at the Rupert Mudoch’s defunct tabloid since 2011.

Mr Justice Saunders told Mr Coulson while sentencing that he had to “take the major share of the blame for the phone hacking” as he was serving at NoW as the editor who tends to control the investigative methods used by reporters.

And inspite of controlling the illegal ways used for journalism, there was “ample evidence that it increased enormously while he was the editor”.

Even though, the trial judge has given Mr Coulson some credit for his previous good character and the delay in the case coming to trial.

After sentencing, Mr Cameron has commented: “It’s right that justice should be done and no-one is above the law.”

Following the verdict, Labour leader Ed Miliband has also raised questions on the Prime Minster’s judgement as he said: “This is a verdict on Andy Coulson’s criminal behaviour but it is also a verdict on David Cameron’s judgment.”
