Police has confirmed to have arrested a mother on suspicion of causing death of her daughter by dangerous driving and child neglect after the two-year-old was killed in a car crash. First responders have explained that the car steered from the road and collided with a wall and a tree in Gibbins Road in Selly Oak, at 4pm yesterday. Paramedics revealed to have attempted to save the toddler, who was rescued from the car’s back seat, but she was pronounced dead in hospital.

The accident triggered arrival of several police officers, four ambulances and a senior paramedic officer. According to the spokesperson of the West Midlands Ambulance Service, “the first ambulance crew to arrive immediately took the baby to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, trying to resuscitate the child with CPR en-route.” It was added that “sadly, the baby was confirmed dead at hospital.”

The vehicle had four female passengers apart from the child, all of whom suffered minor injuries and were treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. The mother was inflicted with head injuries and had to be treated with a spinal board and neck collar. While one of the passengers in the back seat suffered injuries to her head, back and chest and the other complained of back pain. Luckily, the front seat passenger did not receive any serious injuries and climbed out of the vehicle herself. In a public appeal, police has asked for all witnesses of the collision to come forward and call the Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
