A press conference by Rotherham police has brought attention to a missing 12-year-old boy, Joshua Oxley, who disappeared last night. According to the police, the boy was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon and was last seen at Chapeltown train station just before 7pm.

Police claims to be “increasingly concerned” about the boy’s disappearance and used specialist search officers and a helicopter to look through the area overnight as they continue the hunt today. Police says suspects that the disappearance has something to do with an “incident at school” on Tuesday. Joshua is not thought to be carrying a phone or any money.

According to the statement issued by Superintendent Paul McCurry, it was a “very difficult time” for Joshua’s family. He urged anyone who might have seen him to come forward as he explained that “it may not have particularly struck you seeing a young boy in a school uniform at that time but please look at the picture of Joshua and if you remember seeing him, please come forward as your information could be vital.” Supt McCurry added that “I would like to say to Joshua that he is not in any trouble and his mum and the rest of his family just want him to get in touch and let them know where he is.” Reports confirm that Joshua left school in the Kimberworth area of Rotherham at around 3.50pm and was last seen almost 40 minutes later at a roundabout over the M1 at junction 35.
