A group of pro-European Britain’s have launched a campaign on Monday, “Britain Stronger in Europe,” asking their fellow countrymen to support keeping the country inside the European Union. The group highlights that quitting the world’s biggest economic bloc would hurt jobs and torpedo London’s global financial clout. Chair of the campaign and former boss of Marks & Spencer, Stuart Rose, stressed that “leaving Europe is a leap in the dark and I don’t believe that is a risk that is worth us taking.”

During the launch ceremony of the campaign, Rose alleged that “do we continue to lead the world by leading in Europe or risk diminishing our influence on the world stage by turning our backs on Europe?” UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron is anticipated to initiate the renegotiate process of Britain’s relationship with the bloc soon. Meanwhile, the ‘in’ and ‘out’ campaigns prepare for battle in a referendum on membership due before the end of 2017.

According to the campaign, it supports the reform of Europe but does not want to risk leaving. In his remarks stressing on the economic and political pragmatism of staying inside the Union, Rose stated that referendum would define Britain’s future prosperity. He pointed out that “the choice facing us in this referendum is the biggest choice that we have had in perhaps a generation: Do we remain part of the largest free trade market on the planet or do we walk away, perhaps risking jobs, creating uncertainty in our economy?”
