Four murder suspects in the death of 42-year-old lorry driver, Darren Kelly, appeared in court at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Saturday morning. The suspects include a 20-year-old man, a 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, all from Pitsea, along with a 16-year-old boy from Basildon.
The case report details that the stabbed lorry driver, Mr Kelly, was found with serious injuries in Caister Drive, Basildon, on Tuesday evening. The driver staggered to a block of flats and sought help from bystanders who fought to save his life. However, the lorry driver later died after being shifted to the Basildon Hospital. According to Mr Kelly’s daughter, Zoe, “I loved my Dad very much, we were very close and he only lived a short walk away from me.” In the statement issued by Zoe on Thursday, she stated that “I last saw him on Tuesday morning when he took me to work,” adding that “I’m heartbroken and to know he’s not going to be round the corner anymore is very hard.” Zoe alleged that “I miss him so much already and it still doesn’t feel real, but I hope that wherever he is now he’s at peace” and “I’m sure I can speak for everyone when I say that he’s going to be truly missed.”
Mr. Kelly’s post-mortem examination report has stated multiple stab wounds and blood loss as the provisional cause of death. Police believes he had been involved in an altercation with five youths before the attack.
