A 24-year-old Whitby woman, armed with an axe and located inside a neighbor’s home, was tasered by police and apprehended.

On Wednesday March 23, 2011 at approximately 12:30 a.m. officers from Central West Division responded to the Garden Street and Dryden Boulevard area of Whitby for multiple reports of a female suspect, armed with an axe and gaining entry, or attempting entry into several homes located in this neighborhood. Officers arrived and located the armed female and attempted to persuade her to drop her weapon and surrender to police.

The female disregarded the officer’s repeated pleas to drop the axe and enlist their offer of assistance. Officers deployed the conducted energy weapon and the female was apprehended safely and without injury. She was transported to a local hospital for a physical and mental assessment.

One residential window had been smashed by the suspect resulting in minor damages. No injuries to residents were reported. No criminal charges have been laid by investigators.
