At approximately 4:38 p.m. on March 26th, members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Yarmouth Town Detachment, responded to a 911 call regarding a dog attack behind a residence near Main Street and Argyle Street. Upon arrival at the scene, police found a female being attacked by a pit bull.

Police pulled the pit bull off the woman; however the dog continued to attack the responding members. Fearing for their safety as well as the safety of the woman, a responding member discharged a service pistol hitting and killing the dog. Evidence at the scene suggests that the dog attack began inside a residence, and progressed outside.

The 45 year-old female victim was transported to Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Due to the critical nature of her injuries, she was air-lifted to Halifax a short time later. The Yarmouth woman remains in the QEII in stable condition.
