The collision occurred at 3:55 p.m. when the 57 year old driver of a Toyota Sienna traveling eastbound on Innes Road lost control as it was turning onto Cyrville Road. The vehicle entered the southbound lanes of Cyrville Road and struck a southbound Toyota Rav4, driven by a 64 year old man. The Sienna mounted the centre concrete median, where it struck a Honda Odyssey stopped at the intersection in the northbound lane.
The force of the impact drove the Odyssey into a stopped Pontiac Montana to the right of the Odyssey in the northbound lane of Cyrville Road. This carried the vehicles into the right turning lane of Cyrville Road and both struck a Volvo driven by a 45 year old woman.
There were four occupants in the Odyssey. The female driver, age 39, and two male passengers, one seated in the front, age 14 and one seated in the rear, age 8, received minor injuries. The five year old girl seated in the rear sustained life threatening injuries. The 45 year old male driver of the Montana and the driver of the Volvo were both uninjured. The 11-year old female passenger in the rear of the Sienna and the driver were uninjured. The 46 year old female passenger, seated in the front, sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Rav4, who was alone in his vehicle, was uninjured.
My heart goes out the the family of this little girl that went too soon. I am a mom of a young child and I can only imagine what you are going through. She will be in my prayers.
