Police seize explosives from Hamilton home

The Hamilton Police Service has arrested and charged a Hamilton man for unlawful possession of explosives.

On Monday, May 16th, 2011, Hamilton Police received information that a male named Michael KEARNS was creating his own explosives.

The Hamilton Police Service Division Two Detectives investigated the allegations. Through their investigation, a search warrant was obtained and on Tuesday, May 17th, 2011 the warrant was executed at a home located at 777 Cannon Street East. Michael KEARNS was arrested at the home.

Materials and instructions used to manufacture explosives were located within the home. Other residents of the home were temporarily evacuated while the Hamilton Police Service Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) rendered the materials safe. No persons were injured.

Michael KEARNS was arrested and is scheduled for a bail hearing today.
