The owner of an Oshawa dog training business has been charged with cruelty to animals after several pet owners came forward to police with complaints.

Police were called to the business, FACW K-9 Training, on May 12 after a dog owner was told their pet was lost. That investigation led to one charge of Obstruct Peace Officer against the business owner.

Further information about abused animals in the care of the business emerged and police officers attended the business on Waterloo Street yesterday as part of the ongoing investigation. Investigators worked with local bylaw officials and the SPCA, who removed several dogs for their safety. The owners of the pets in the facility were contacted and advised of the ongoing investigation.

The new allegations involve the mistreatment of five dogs, including instances of alleged kicking, temporarily hanging with a leash and allowing two dogs to fight.

Craig WRIGHT, age 42, of Simcoe Street South in Oshawa is charged with: Cruelty to Animals x4. He was held for a bail hearing.
