Father of dead 10 year old Brampton boy charged with murder

Additional charges have been laid in the homicide investigation into the death of 10 year-old Shakeil Boothe.

On Friday, May 27, 2011, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Peel Regional Police and Peel Paramedics responded to a medical assistance call at a Homeland Court residence in Brampton.

On arrival, a 10 year-old male child was found without vital signs. He was declared dead shortly thereafter.

The victim’s father, Garfield BOOTHE, a 31 year-old male from Brampton, was originally charged with Failure to Provide the Necessities of Life. On Tuesday, May 31, 2011, he will be brought before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton and formally charged with Second Degree Murder.

Investigators have also arrested the victim’s step-mother, Nichelle BOOTHE-ROWE, a 28 year-old female resident of Brampton. Ms. BOOTHE-ROWE has been charged with Manslaughter and will also be making a court appearance on Tuesday, May 31, 2011.

No further charges are expected in this case.

This death is Peel’s eighth homicide of the year.
