On Sunday evening at 1155 PM, a Honda CRV with 5 occupants was travelling at a high rate of speed southbound on Stoney Trail. The driver attempted to navigate the ramp to McKnight Boulevard. The vehicle left the roadway and travelled approximately 120 metres, rolling several times. Two occupants, not restrained by seatbelts, were ejected from the vehicle. Both were transported to hospital where one subsequently died of injuries sustained, the other occupant remains in critical life threatening condition. The two remaining passengers were transported to hospital for minor injuries. The driver, an adult male, was uninjured and taken into custody by police at the scene.

Speed and alcohol are factors in this accident and charges are pending against the driver.

The intersection at Stoney and McKnight was closed for several hours while the Traffic section conducted the investigation but has since been re-opened.
