Fake contractor charged for breaking into houses in Toronto

On Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 11:25 a.m., police responded to a call for a break-and-enter in the Duplex Avenue/Chaplin Crescent area.

It is alleged that:

– a man, posing as a contractor, knocked on the victim’s door,
– when no one answered the door, he went to the rear of the house,
– the man attempted to pry open a window,
– police were contacted and arrived at the home,
– police pursued the man on foot and arrested him a short distance away.

It is further alleged that:

– the accused is responsible for 11 break-and-enters between January 2011 and June 2011.

Jason Brace, 34, of Holland Landing, was arrested and charged with:

1) Attempt Break and Enter with Intent,
2) Possession of Burglars Tools,
3) Mischief Under,
4) Possession of Property Obtained By Crime,
5) 11 counts of Break-and-Enter Commit.

He was scheduled to appear in court at College Park Court, on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, room 501, at 10 a.m.
