The Edmonton Police Service, in consultation with the Crown Prosecutors Office, have determined that no charges will be laid in connection with the death of 20-year-old Yusuf Abdirahim. Mr. Abdirahim died on May 21, two days after he was discovered on the boulevard at 149 Avenue and 70 Street by a Northeast Division Patrol Officer.
Background:
Homicide Section investigators completed a thorough investigation into the death of Mr. Abdirahim and forwarded the investigative facts to the Crown for an opinion. On June 28, 2011 the Crown and the EPS jointly concluded that no charges be laid.
The facts in this case are that Mr. Abdirahim was the aggressor in this incident. The other individual used reasonable force to defend himself.
This investigation is now concluded.
