On behalf of all the men and women of York Regional Police, Chief Eric Jolliffe would like to express his thanks for the outpouring of support and messages of condolence we continue to receive from federal, provincial and municipal representatives, police chiefs, senior staff and officers, faith and community organizations, members of the media and the many citizens of our region and across Canada regarding the tragic on-duty death of Constable Garrett Styles on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. It has touched us all.

A trust fund for Constable Styles’ family has been established in the name of his wife, Melissa Styles, at the Police Credit Union at 18025 Yonge Street, Newmarket, L3Y 8C9. The account number is 2000014 and the transit number is 63612. Cheques should be made payable to In Trust for Melissa Styles and can be mailed to the address above. Deposits can also be made at any branch of the Police Credit Union.

York Regional Police is also releasing details of the full police funeral which will take place on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.

Visitation will take place on Monday, July 4, 2011 at Jerrett Funeral Homes, Vaughan Chapel, located at 8088 Yonge Street, in the City of Vaughan, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The police funeral will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m., at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, located at 100 Eagle Street West, in the Town of Newmarket.

The police procession will be along Yonge Street, south from Davis Drive to Eagle Street, and will take place prior to the funeral service. It’s expected to begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. sharp.

Both the visitation and the funeral are open to the public, however we anticipate thousands of officers from across North America to attend the funeral and seating inside the complex will be not available to the public.

We are encouraging citizens who wish to pay their respects to Constable Styles’ family to line up along Yonge Street between Davis Drive and Eagle Street to observe the procession prior to the service. We are endeavouring to arrange remote video or audio outside of the Ray Twinnney Complex for officers who won’t be able to attend inside and for members of the public.
