Stabbing at basketball game leaves Toronto man dead

On Friday, July 1, 2011, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a 39-year-old man was dropped off at a hospital with several stab wounds.

It is reported that:

– the man was at a community Canada Day BBQ on Biggin Court, attended by over 50 people,

– at approximately 6:15 p.m., an argument broke out at the event’s pick-up basketball tournament, in the make-shift basketball court at 7 Biggin Court,

– during the argument, the man was stabbed.

He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The man has been identified as Shawn Charles, 39, of Toronto.

Spectators of the basketball game may have witnessed the argument, possibly unaware of the stabbing.
