Washington DC police make arrests for the murders of Renee Best and Edward C. Gray

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, Cold Case Office, have announced an arrest was made in the 1998 homicide of Renee Best and the 1999 homicide of Edward C. Gray.

On Sunday, February 22, 1998 at approximately 7:00 pm, members from the Sixth District responded to the 4600 block of Hillside Road, SE to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon arrival on the scene, officers located an adult female inside of the location suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital where the victim succumbed to her injury and was pronounced dead.

The decedent was identified as 26-year-old Renee Best of Northwest, Washington, D.C.

On Monday, March 22, 1999, at approximately 8:44 pm, members from the Sixth District responded to the area of Alabama Avenue and G Street, SE to investigate the report of sounds of gunshots. In the 4800 block of Alabama Avenue, SE, the officers located a vehicle that appeared to have been in a collision. Further investigation revealed that the operator of the vehicle was suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital where the victim succumbed to his injury and was pronounced dead.

The decedent was identified as 29 year-old Edward C. Gray of Northwest, Washington, D.C.

On Thursday, July 7, 2011 at approximately 10:00 am, detectives from the Cold Case Office arrested 35-year-old Cederick Lorenzo Shuler of Ft. Washington, MD, pursuant to a booking order charging him with two counts of First Degree Murder while Armed.
