Shawnigan Lake RCMP, BC Ambulance Service and Shawnigan Lake Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched at 3:27 pm yesterday, July 7th, to a single vehicle collision on Shawnigan Lake Road, just north of Filgate Road in Shawnigan Lake.

RCMP located an older model Toyota Corolla approximately ten feet down the embankment, bordering the roadway. The vehicle had struck a tree as it veered off the right side of the road, and traveled down the embankment. The lone occupant of the vehicle was found inside, deceased. The collision is believed to have occurred in the early hours of July 7th. Unfortunately the vehicle went unnoticed, due to the location of where it came to rest.

Traffic was closed in the 3200 block of Shawnigan Lake Road for a brief period while the vehicle was recovered.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 18 year old Victor David ANDERSON of Cobble Hill. He graduated from Brentwood College School this year. "Victor’s tragic death has left his family devastated, and has shaken the Brentwood College Community and it’s extended family, faculty and surrounding High Schools in the area", states Sgt. Rob Webb, of the Shawnigan Lake RCMP.

South Island Traffic Services, including the Traffic Reconstruction Investigator are assisting Shawnigan Lake RCMP with this investigation. The BC Coroner Service are also investigating. The cause of the collision is not yet known.
