Youth arrested in Winnipeg home invasion sexual assault

On Saturday, July 10th, 2011 at approximately midnight Winnipeg Police Service Division 16 General Patrol members were dispatched to a residential break and enter in progress in the Fort Richmond area.

A 27 year old female was home along when a 17 year old male suspect attempted to gain entry to the residence through a window. The female was able to secure the window however the male then forced another window open and entered the suite.

The male suspect robbed the female of cash and grabbed the victim when she attempted to escape. The male suspect assaulted the female victim in the upper body then serious sexually assaulted her.

The male suspect fled the residence through another window when he heard someone at the door.

Winnipeg Police Canine Unit and Division 16 General Patrol attended and successfully located and arrested a 17 year old male youth. The male youth was taken to hospital for treatment of lacerations he received while fleeing the residence. The Sex Crime Unit then took over the investigation.

The 27 year old female victim was conveyed in stable condition to hospital.

The 17 year old male was arrested and charged with the following:

-Sexual Assault Cause Bodily Harm
-Break, Enter dwelling house
-Robbery with Violence
-Forcible Confinement
-YCJA Failure to comply with sentence X3
-Fail to Comply with Condition Undertaking
