Police arrest Philip Wayne Pynn for murder at Portugal Cove Road in St. John’s, NL

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has arrested and charged 25 year old PHILIP WAYNE PYNN in connection with a murder that occurred on Portugal Cove Road in St. John’s, NL on July 9, 2011.

Shortly after 10:30 pm on Saturday, July 9, RNC Patrol officers responded to a report of a disturbance between several adult males at the Portugal cove Road property. A 20 year old male sustained what is now confirmed as a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical practitioners. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary does not believe this murder to be a random act of violence and has been looking for a person of interest named PHILIP WAYNE PYNN, who was believed to have been present at the scene during the shooting.

At approximately 4:00 pm today, members of the RNC Criminal Investigation Division and Tactics & Rescue Unit (TRU) arrested PYNN with a warrant outside of a residential property in the East end of St. John’s. PYNN is currently in RNC custody and is expected to appear in court tomorrow facing charges of second degree murder and attempted murder.
