sexual assaults prompt tight security at laval universityThe officials at Laval University have confirmed to have heightened security on campus in light of the multiple break-ins and sexual assault incidents on Friday and Saturday. According to the police, one suspect broke into five rooms in the Alphonse Marie Parent residence at the University and sexually assaulted four people. The initial report about multiple people being involved in the incident has now be disregarded.

In response to the incident, the school further increased its security measures at the student residence. In addition to the regular hallway patrols, there will now be a security guard placed at the front door 24/7. Moreover, officials have also turned over the security footage from cameras in the building to the police in order to help identify the suspect. University spokesperson, Andrée-Anne Stewart, mentioned in her remarks that “we want to tell the community and the victims that all our hearts are with them, and we invite them to contact us.” She added that “we invite them to contact us and we want them to know that all our resources are there for them so don’t hesitate to contact us.”

Stewart alleged that being a young woman and former student she was profoundly disturbed by the incidents. Laval University has offered psychological help and counselling for students who need it as Stewart urged women to take advantage of the help. Police are also asking anyone with information about the crimes to come forward and help them in the investigation.
