Edmonton explosion claims life of two people

Edmonton Police Service Homicide detectives are investigating the deaths of two people found deceased following a fire in a south side building.

Police were called just after 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2 regarding a fire on the north side of the Bethany Seniors Home located at 99 Street and 83 Avenue.

It has been determined the fire was caused by an explosion and is also now being investigated by the EPS Arson Unit. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

The identity of the two deceased persons is yet to be determined and an autopsy is yet to be scheduled. Investigators continue to sift through evidence and debris at the scene. Detectives are also reviewing nearby video surveillance that could possibly help in their investigation.
