A charge of second degree murder has been laid against Anthony Blake Cruz of Richmond in relation to Vancouver’s 6th homicide of 2011.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on June 10th, a caller to 9-1-1 reported that a woman was deceased inside an apartment in the 7400 block Fraser Street. VPD Homicide investigators were called to the scene and determined that the woman met with foul play.

Anthony Cruz was arrested on Friday, August 5th, in Richmond without incident. Cruz has no previous criminal convictions. He remains in custody and his first court appearance is scheduled for Monday, August 8th at 9:30 a.m. in Provincial Court.

Vancouver Police are now able to release the name of the victim. Thirty-six year old Jessica Eguia-Cornejo was Peruvian and had been in Vancouver since mid-2008.
