Unlicensed Toronto taxi driver charged with credit card fraud

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a fraud investigation.

It is alleged that:

– a man posed as a licensed taxi operator,

– the man targeted intoxicated would-be fares in the Entertainment District,

– the man would obtain the victim’s credit/debit card and PIN,

– the victims would realize the fraudulent activities some time after being dropped off.

A number of victims have come forward. Investigators believe there may be other victims.

Shehzad Ahmad, 32, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) four counts of Theft (under),

2) 14 counts of Fraud (under),

3) 14 counts of Use credit card obtained by crime.

He is scheduled to appear in court at College Park, room 505, on Friday, September 16, 2011, at 10 a.m.
