Impaired driver kills a Hamilton pedestrian

An early morning fatal collision on the Stoney Creek Mountain is the City’s 13th traffic fatality.

On August 21st, 2011 at approximately 1:00 a.m., a Pontiac Montana van was eastbound on Mud St. E. just west of Fifth Rd. E. when it collided with a female pedestrian, 19yrs. of Hamilton, who was on the roadway. The female pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Hamilton Police Division Two patrol and the Collision Reconstruction Unit arrived at the scene to investigate. The driver of the van was identified and arrested after showing signs of impairment. The driver was taken to the police station for a breathalyzer test. The driver was subsequently charged with Impaired Causing Death and held for a bail hearing.

The name of the female victim is not being released at the request of the family.
