Man charged in Schomberg double murder

Investigators working out of the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have charged a Schomberg man and are releasing the identity of the victims following a double homicide that occurred yesterday in the Township of King.

On Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at approximately 10:25 a.m., police were called to an industrial business on Lloydtown-Aurora Road, east of Highway 27, for a report of two injured men. Officersarrived on scene and discovered one man deceased at the scene, another with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. After conducting a brief investigation, members working out of the #1 District Uniform Patrol Unit arrested a man at the scene without incident.

The victims have now been identified as James WILSON, 76, of Orangeville and William Allan JONES, 76, of Schomberg. The cause of their deaths will be later determined upon conclusion of post-mortem examinations.

CHARGED:

Robert ABERNETHY, 47, of Schomberg

CHARGES:

Second Degree Murder x 2
Mr. Abernethy has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket sometime today
