Tofino RCMP Const. Sascha Banks said the first fatality occurred on Saturday afternoon when a 24-year-old man critically injured himself jumping in a swimming hole at Maggie Falls, east of the Tofino-Ucluelet Junction.

Banks said emergency services were unable to revive Ryan Thompson, who was from Colwood on Vancouver Island.

Foul play is not suspected. Banks said the second death occurred at 2: 45 a.m. when a vehicle struck a 35-year-old man walking in the area of Pacific Rim Highway and Industrial Way in Tofino.

Robert MacInnes, a long time Tofino resident, died at the scene.

Meanwhile, PoCo RCMP was called to Kitchener Street near the Fraser River Sunday afternoon after passersby found a man’s body in a wooded area.

It was not clear Monday night how the man died.
