Legendary coach Brad McCrimmon passed away in the tragic Russian plane crash that took place Wednesday when the aircraft was departing in western Russia. The dreadful accident took 43 lives and gravely injured two people.

According to the Russian Emergency Situations, the Russian plane was Yak-42, one of the several jets that were scheduled to officially run out in 2012. The plane reportedly went down instantly after taking off from an airport near Yaroslavl, on the Volga River, 240 kilometers northeast of Moscow.

The Lokomotiv hockey team was travelling in Yak-42 from Yaroslavl to Minsk to play against Dynamo Minsk in the first game of the season of the Continental Hockey League (KHL). According to the ministry, 37 passengers along with several crew members died on spot. Moreover, two people allegedly stayed alive and were carried to hospital.
