The District 1 RCMP is investigating the sudden death of a 35-year-old man from Oak Haven, near St. Stephen, over the weekend.

On November 13, 2011, shortly after 4:00 p.m., the RCMP and other emergency officials responded to a report that a man had suffered a gunshot wound.

Investigators believe the man and his seven-year-old son had been travelling on an all-terrain vehicle in a wooded area near St. Stephen. The man was reportedly carrying a loaded rifle, and when he went to dismount the ATV, it appears the firearm accidentally discharged, wounding the man.

The seven-year-old boy walked approximately three kilometres to his grandparents residence, who then alerted police. The man was discovered deceased a short time later.

The man’s name has not been released pending notification of his family. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
