On the evening of November 16, 2011, the District 4 RCMP received a report of a 23-year-old man from Amherst, Nova Scotia, who had been hunting in the Baie-Verte area of New Brunswick and not returned.

Police and volunteers with Tri-County Search and Rescue searched the area throughout the night, but were unable to locate the man.

This morning, the man walked out of the woods on his own, approximately two kilometres from where he had left his vehicle.

The man had become disoriented in the woods and was unable to find his way out. When he did emerge, he was cold and wet, but otherwise safe and sound. He told police he had lit a fire and waited until daylight to find his way out. The man did not require medical treatment.
