An ex-girlfriend is among the four people who have been taken into police custody in connection with the robbery and beating of world poker champion Jonathan Duhamel.

“Jonathan knew Bianca,” Duhamel’s friend and manager, Philippe Jette said. “The three others he doesn’t know.”

According to police, charges have been placed against two men and a woman on Wednesday, while another man was arrested Thursday morning.

Duhamel was the first Canadian to win the World Series of Poker’s main event in Las Vegas last year, earning him $8.9 million US.

Duhamel said two men forced their way into his suburban home just east of Montreal on Dec. 21 and bound him and beat him.

“Investigators received information from the public and with this information they were able to arrest a 20-year-old woman Saturday night,” said Const. Mark David of the Longueuil police.

The police were successful in recovering the stolen Rolex but the coveted championship bracelet is still missing. However, they are refusing to say if the $10,000 reward Duhamel offered for information on the theft played a role in the arrests.

“We can say that the investigation is rapidly progressing thanks to information we obtained from the public,” said police spokesman Martin Simard.
