Cape Tormentine elderly woman dies in vehicle collision with moose

The District 4 RCMP in Sackville is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in Malden, N.B., on December 29, 2011.

A vehicle travelling eastbound on Route 16 collided with a moose.

A 76- year-old woman from Cape Tormentine, who was a passenger in the vehicle, passed away at the scene as a result of injuries she sustained in the crash. The driver of the vehicle, the woman’s 79-year-old husband, suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital, where he remains. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Road conditions, speed and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the collision. The investigation is on going.

The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of her family.
