Charges laid against the man arrested for killing Washington man Juan Antonio Paredes

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 3300 block of 14th Street, Northwest.     

On Saturday, January 14, 2012, at approximately 1:55 pm units from the Third District responded to a call for an assault in the 3300 block of 14th Street, Northwest.  Upon arrival, they located the victim, an adult male, lying on the ground.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. 

On Sunday, January 15, 2012, at 10:15 pm, the victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.  The decedent, identified as 45-year-old Juan Antonio Paredes of Northwest, Washington DC, was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pending an autopsy.

On Monday, January 16, 2012, a 50-year-old male was charged with Assault with the Intent to Kill While Armed in this case.  On Wednesday, January 18, 2012, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death in this case as blunt force trauma and the manner of death as a homicide. Additional charges are pending in this case.
