Peel police arrest three men for child porn

The members of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet have laid numerous charges in connection with a co-ordinated, province-wide child pornography investigation. The Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet is comprised of the OPP Child Exploitation Section and 18 Municipal police services.

Officers from the Peel Regional Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit ( I.C.E. ), assisted by officers from the Special Victims Unit, have made three arrests as part of their partnered commitment to this strategy.

Jose Sobarzo – Hernandez, 21 years of age from Mississauga, has been charged with 2 counts of Distributing Child Pornography, and 1 count of Possessing Child Pornography. He appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on February 2, 2012, for a Bail Hearing.

Carman Batchelor, a 56 year old man from Brampton, has been charged with Possessing Child Pornography and Accessing Child Pornography. He appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on February 1, 2012, for a Bail Hearing.

Bret Sheppard, 51 years of age from Mississauga, has been charged with Possessing Child Pornography and Accessing Child Pornography. He appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on February 2, 2012, for a Bail Hearing. Sheppard is a teaching assistant at the Lynn-Rose Heights Private School in Mississauga. Due to the nature of Sheppard’s employment, investigators will be working closely with school officials to ensure that any witnesses or victims are identified, and provided the appropriate support.

Our most fundamental responsibility as a society is to protect our children from those who would do them harm. We continue to gain ground in the fight against child sexual abuse on the Internet. The Ontario police services associated with the Provincial Strategy will continue their diligent and aggressive search for those individuals who prey on our children.

The Peel Regional Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit continues to actively investigate Child Sexual offences related to computers.
