Canada imposed another set of sanctions on Syria by outlawing all transactions with the central bank and seven cabinet ministers. Canada has been doing so to put pressure on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s onslaught against rebels.
“The continuing, appalling violence perpetrated by the Assad regime on the people of Syria compels us to again tighten the vice on those responsible … Our message remains clear: Assad must go,” Foreign Minister John Baird said in a statement.
Moreover, the U.S. hit economic sanctions Monday on Syrian media, declaring their support for the Damascus regime in order to put down the notorious rebellion.
“The Syrian regime’s use of state entities to repress and attack civilians has imposed a devastating toll on the people of Syria,” the US Treasury said in a statement. “The United States has consistently stood against this abuse and has taken strong steps to target the regimes ability to act against the Syrian people.”
Adam Szubin of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said, “The Syrian General Organization of Radio and TV has served as an arm of the Syrian regime as it mounts increasingly barbaric attacks on its own population and seeks both to mask and legitimize its violence.”
