Alberta mother who drowned her sons in a bathtub is to appear in the court today to testify in her defence. Allyson McConnell is been tried in Wetaskiwin on two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of her sons: 10-month-old Jayden and 2-year-old Connor.
During the trial, McConnell seemed much confused and hazed. She could not instantly answer to very simple questions. When her lawyer, Peter Royal, asked her age, she said, “I’m 33 years old, I believe… I haven’t kept track of it recently.”
McConnell told the court about her first miscarriage when she was a teenager. She was carrying her own father’s child. She also mentioned having communication issues with her husband in their early years of marriage. She told the court the couple’s youngest son was not planned.
The terrible incident took place in 2010. Ever since, McConnell has continuously admitted of drowning her sons; however, has pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charges.
Dr. Bernard Bannach, the Medical Examiner, informed the court about the results of the autopsies he performed on the bodies of the two young boys and confirmed that the cause of death was drowning. The doctor who performed the psychological evaluation on McConnell is also expected to testify in the coming court hearings.
