Five people of the same family were found dead in a local duplex, says Jacksonville Police Department. Reportedly, bodies of one woman and four children were discovered in a duplex early Thursday morning.
According to Chief Bob Thornton, someone from the neighbourhood smelled smoke from the house and called firefighters around 6 a.m. Firefighters tried to enter the residence but nobody answered the door, hence, they used thermal imaging but there were no signs of a fire from outside of the house.
Hours later, a maintenance worker was asked to open the door only to discover five bodies. Although there were no evident signs of fire burning but it seemed like a fire had burned overnight. Also, there were no signs of break-in.
The Jacksonville Police Department has not yet revealed the identities of the deceased, neither have they identified the cause of death. Several law enforcement agencies, including the state fire marshal and Arkansas State Police, are investigating.
Jacksonville is roughly 20 miles northeast of Little Rock and is home to the Little Rock Air Force Base, a training base for C-130 aircraft.
