Peel Regional Police Inspector George Koekkoek, the Officer-in-Charge of Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau, and Detective Inspector Chris Gilpin, Ontario Provincial Police Criminal Investigation Branch addressed the media regarding the investigation into the disappearance of Mrs. Poonam Litt.
On Thursday, February 5, 2009, 27 year-old Poonam Litt was reported missing from her Brampton residence. At that time Peel Regional Police 21 Division commenced an extensive missing person investigation.
On Wednesday, February 22, 2012, human remains were discovered on a rural property in the Caledon Village area. Post Mortem and Forensic examinations identified the remains to be that of Poonam Litt.
The recent findings of Mrs. Poonam Litt’s remains, along with other significant information that has been recently developed, lead Ontario Provincial Police and Peel Regional Police investigators to strongly believe that Poonam Litt’s death is the result of foul play.
