A 37-year-old Miramichi man has appeared in Miramichi Provincial court in connection with an investigation into Internet child exploitation.
Kirk Matheson, the principal at North and South Esk Regional High School in Sunny Corner, has been charged with two charges of luring, one charge of possession of child pornography and one charge of counselling to commit an offense.
The police allege that Matheson was posing on the Internet as a woman to entice boys to send him nude photos of themselves. At this point, police have identified two victims from the local area.
Matheson has been released on strict conditions, including to stay away from North and South Esk Regional High School. He is scheduled to appear in court next on June 11, 2012.
The investigation began following information received by District 6 Miramichi RCMP last week. District 6 RCMP, the RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit, and the RCMP’s Tech Crime Unit are all involved in the investigation with assistance from the Miramichi Police Force.
