Durham police searching an unknown man that approaches young girl

Durham Regional Police are asking parents and caregivers to be vigilant after a young girl was approached in Bowmanville. 

On Thursday April 19, 2012 at approximately 4 p.m., a 10-year-old girl was walking home from school in the area Prout Drive and High Street in Bowmanville. She was approached by an unknown male on a bicycle who told her that he had been asked to take her home. 

The girl ran to a neighbour’s house and police were contacted. The girl was not physically harmed. Officers searched the area with negative results. 

The unknown male is described as: white, in his 30s, clean shaven with short brown hair. He was wearing a light blue shirt, beige shorts and a brown hat. He was riding a mountain style bicycle. 

Earlier this week, on Tuesday April 17, 2012 at about 8:30 a.m., a 14-year-old girl reported a suspicious person in the area of Liberty Street North and Wellington Street. She believed the male was following her,however, he did not make any attempts to speak to or make any physical contact with her. 

The suspicious male in this case is described as: white, about 45-years-old with a tall thin build, short hair and a goatee. He was wearing a dark grey shirt and ripped blue jeans.
