International Cooperation Minister Bev Oda is finally returning all the tax money she misused during her trip to London, England. Oda is reimbursing expenses incurred on the rental car and driver she used during her trip.

Allegedly, the expenses for the rental car added up to $3,000. According to Oda’s office, she has reimbursed all the charges paid for the car service and other costs that were dishonestly charged to taxpayers.

“The repayment covered the costs associated with changing hotels: the difference in cost between the two hotels, the cancellation fee, the car service in London, and all incremental costs that should not have been charged to taxpayers,” spokesman Justin Broekema said.

Oda also made a public apology Tuesday for charging taxpayers for her stay at London’s lavish hotel which charges at least $665 per night with a luxury car and driver that charged $1,000 per day. Oda was initially supposed to stay at a less expensive yet decent hotel. Therefore, she paid back taxpayers for the difference in cost of the two hotels.

Conservative House leader Peter Van Loan said: “The minister has repaid the inappropriate costs. I think that is what the public would expect, that is what the opposition would expect, and I do not think she would be asked to repay costs that were appropriate.”

Van Loan added that the ministers must perform their jobs at fair costs; hence, Oda has reimbursed all the inappropriate expenses. He said the Liberals must also be paying taxpayers back for money they still owe them.
