A 36-year-old Moncton man has been sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of possession of child pornography.

On May 28, 2012, Shawn Vatcher appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and pleaded guilty to the charge.

Vatcher was arrested on February 21, 2012, after police received a call from a computer repair business that discovered child sexual abuse images on a computer belonging to Vatcher.

"This is just another case that shows that those who are viewing, sharing or producing child sexual abuse images can be detected and charged," says Cpl. JeanMarc Paré of the New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation Unit. "Identifying and tracking possible offenders is an ongoing effort for police and our priority continues to be going after those who pose the most risk to public safety and to children in our communities."

In addition to the prison sentence, Vatcher will be on probation for three years after he is released. He will also be added to the National Sex Offender Registry for the next ten years.
