The Peel Regional Police Homicide Bureau has made an arrest in the suspicious and previously unexplained death of a three year old Mississauga girl from September of 2011.

On Tuesday, September 20, 2011, Niyati JHA was brought to a Mississauga area medical clinic.  After further examination, the child was transported to the Hospital for Sick Children in critical condition and placed on life – support. On Wednesday, September 21, 2011, Niyati passed away from serious injuries to her head and brain.

The Peel Regional Police Homicide and Missing Person’s Bureau assumed the matter early on in the investigation, and their efforts, together with the Office of The Chief Coroner, Ontario Forensic Pathology Services and Sick Children’s Hospital’s Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) Unit, has led to today’s arrest.

Charged with Second Degree Murder is 35 year old Nandini JHA of Mississauga. She will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, on Tuesday June 19, 2012.
