Winnipeg police recovered drowned man’s body from Red River

On June 20, 2012, at approximately 6:00 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Queen Elizabeth Way near the Red River, as a result of two males jumping into the river.

The investigation has revealed that a 36 year old male and 37 year old male jumped into the river from the bridge. The 37 year old male was able to swim to shore; however the 36 year old male was last seen struggling in the middle of the river and was presumed drowned.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. today, members of the WPS Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located a male in the river, just east of the bridge. The 36 year old male’s identity has been confirmed and next of kin have been notified.

No further information will be released regarding this matter.
